Follow these steps to ensure an efficient writing process... 

1. Select your topic

Topics can be informative or share a personal reflection about life as a podiatry student. 

Some examples include:

  • Political advocacy 
  • Research involvement
  • Community service reflections

  • Overcoming obstacles
  • Life as a student & parent
  • Medical ethics
  • 3rd Year Externships

  • Communication in medicine

  • Trends in podiatry (barefoot running? holistic podiatry? tea tree oil?)
  • Podiatrist Spotlight (interview a DPM)

 

2. Research

Providing sources is professional, and adds support to your work. References are encouraged, but may not be required for all articles (such as personal reflection topics).  

Formatting:

  • Last name First Initial, Lastname FI, Lastname FI. Title of article. Journal name. Year; Volume(issue): pp-pp.
  • Example: “the reference content (1).” 
  • References should be listed in order of appearance – i.e. the first reference should be “1”

 

3. Please Include photos!

Please include photos related to the topic and a photo of the author ☺

 

4. Read, Revise, Repeat

During the editing process, it can be helpful to ask these questions:

  • What is the purpose of this article?
  • Does the article address the intended purpose?
  • Is the flow logical?
  • Is the grammar correct?

Do I have to be formal in my writing?

Articles should be professionally written, however writing style can vary by individuals. It is encouraged for authors to be expressive and share opinions. 

 

How long should it be?

Articles should be a minimum of 500 words

 

Can I submit a rough draft?

Yes! There will be a reviewing and editing process to provide feedback and suggestions for edits if necessary
